A Child's Memory

Harking to a time when children’s games were more physical rather than virtual, Anton del Castillo presents us with A Child’s Memory, an installation of oversized metal jackstones. Jackstone, a game more often associated with girls, also emphasizes, questions, and subverts notions on gender roles. The sculptures, situated behind the Social Sciences of the Ateneo de Manila University, are also a meditation on how public art can transform spaces and put to light once more the potential and possibilities in the neglected, ignored, and forgotten.

Another One

Negotiating between the perception of another place and of where one is rooted persists in Eric Zamuco’s Another Other. The work comprises of things, photographs, sculptures and video collection serve as a documentation of the artist’s travels and relocations, as well as recent pieces rooted in Manila. The pieces also present the different experiences of places and spaces that the artist has had: the impressive and luxurious, understated and elegant, the kitschy and chaotic. The exhibition is an attempt at, or in the artist’s words: “a hope for”, a kind of human order amidst the amassing of things, experiences, and memories.
